Both my father and grandfather were in the Royal Navy so you could almost say the sea is in my blood! They both taught me to respect the power of the sea; both mountains and oceans can make mincemeat of us frail humans in a thrice.
I am a member of Downs Sailing Club and in my opinion the best view of Deal is the one from a few hundred yards out in the Channel. Bobbing up and down in a dinghy (more down than up in my case) the panorama stretching from the Deal Pier to the beginning of the White Cliffs at Kingsdown is absolutely stunning. Add to that the colour of the water as it turns an oily pinky blue at sunset, there is no better place to be. Let it remain that way.
We muck about with nature at our peril; not fully understanding the consequences until it is too late. We cannot let developers decide what is best for our precious environment and that is why I am happy to spend so much time and energy protecting the Goodwin Sands.
