The idea that any remains of pilots would still be in the top two metres after 75 years is daft. Most local people know that any debris works it’s way downwards.I remember as a child seeing the mast of a ship on the sands from Deal which gradually sunk into the sand.Your main argument is the “graves” point yet every year around 30 soldiers remains are unearthed by agriculture in the Western front area.Ive never heard you or anyone campaigning to stop people ploughing and designating the area as a wargrave.I know you won’t change your view but I just wanted to express mine.

Hi Simon, There is nothing daft about the idea at all! Military air crash remains are very light and can be churned around in the highly mobile sand at any depth. 75 years is nothing compared to the remains of the wooden Rooswijk which are being excavated after over 300 years.

Funny how all your arguments and national media show seals at the northern end of the sands which are 20 miles
away from the deep water site which has been dredged consistently in the past – so no wrecks or graves in that area. No idea what you’re talking about just another ” environmentalist” trying to get your 15 mins of fame

Hi Dave, I’m sorry I haven’t replied to your comment from August … The seal haul out sites at Trinity Bay and Kellett Gut are actually less than 1 km from the proposed dredging area. It is very true the Sands were dredged years ago back in the pre regulatory days when any significant finds were likely to have been thrown back overboard. Gold bullion was dredged up from the Admiral Gardner, damaging the wreck in the process. Fortunately, times have changed and we are all very much more aware of the Underwater Cultural Heritage today and some of us are even prepared to try and protect it for the nation.
